13 hostages, killed

At least 13 Israeli and foreign hostages were killed in the northern Gaza Strip in Israeli airstrikes over the past 24 hours, Hamas’ armed wing said on Friday.

In a surprise and unexpected attack on Saturday morning, Hamas militants stormed Israeli communities near the Gaza border and fired rockets. More than 1,200 people were killed in the attack.

Israel has said that Hamas has taken more than 150 hostages, including both civilians and security forces.

In a statement, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades said that ‘thirteen prisoners, including foreigners’, were killed in five locations targeted by Israeli warplanes.

Israel has rained down air and artillery strikes on the besieged Gaza Strip, home to a densely populated 2.4 million people – collapsing buildings and killing more than 1,500 people.
