Jaish al-Adl is an armed militant group that opposes the Iranian government. The organization introduces itself as the ‘Army of Justice and Equality’ and is a Sunni organization. The group describes itself as the “defender of Sunni rights” in Iran’s Sistan and Balochistan provinces.
An organization called ‘Jaish-ul-Adl’ comprising Sunni Baloch militias was established in 2009 after the arrest and execution of Abdul Malik Regi, the head of the militant group ‘Jundullah’ by Iran, on the charge of ‘working against the country and the nation’. It was made months later.
Abdul Malik Regi was executed in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchistan province on charges of bombing, targeting Iranian security forces and being an agent of the United Kingdom and the United States.
After the arrest of Regi, the then Pakistani diplomat posted in Iran, Mohammad Abbasi, said that Pakistan had played an important role in the arrest of Abdul Malik Regi, a most wanted militant in Iran and the former head of Jundallah. Reggie was arrested when he was trying to travel to Kyrgyzstan from Dubai.
On the other hand, according to the United States’ Directorate of National Intelligence, the extremist organization called ‘Jaish al-Adl’ (formerly known as ‘Jundallah’) was involved in several explosions and attacks in Iran, including the attack on then President Ahmadinejad in 2005. and these operations on behalf of this organization have been carried out mostly in the border provinces of Balochistan, Char Bah and Zahedan.
In the early years of its formation, opposition to Iran’s ‘intervention’ in Syria was considered one of Jundullah’s policies. In the year 2012, this organization changed its name to ‘Jaish-ul-Adl’.
Over the years, the group has engaged in armed and bloody clashes with Iran’s military and security forces, and has claimed responsibility for several armed attacks in the border areas of southeastern Iran.
The government of Iran considers ‘Jaish al-Adl’ as a ‘terrorist group’ and is linked to the intelligence agencies of Saudi Arabia and the United States and calls it ‘Jaish al-Zalum’.
The group’s activities include the killing of Iranian security forces personnel and the kidnapping of Iranian border guards and armed forces personnel.
Since Jundullah was founded in 2002, the group has repeatedly claimed responsibility for deadly attacks in Iran. One of the bloodiest incidents was the bombing of a Shia mosque in Zahedan, on the eve of the 2008 presidential election, which killed 25 people and injured more than 120 others.
Jundullah claimed responsibility for the attack. The United Nations has condemned the attack as a terrorist attack.
