US Vetoed the UN resolution | Cease-fire in Gaza

UN resolution

The United States has once again vetoed the resolution submitted to the UN Security Council for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza on humanitarian grounds.

13 out of 15 members of the UN Council supported the cease-fire motion, but Britain did not join.

It should be noted that the United States, as one of the five permanent members of the Security Council, can veto any resolution.

The United States said that the proposal presented by the United Arab Emirates is unbalanced and unrealistic.

On the other hand, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said at the beginning of voting regarding the ceasefire in Gaza under Article 99 in the Security Council that the growing conflict in the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen is a threat to international peace and security. There is a serious risk.

While raising the issue of voting under Article 99 for the cease-fire in Gaza at the United Nations Security Council meeting on Friday, he said that it is a very urgent matter that should be brought to the attention of the Council.

The United Nations has also expressed the fear that due to the increase in war frenzy, the possibility that the situation in Gaza will deteriorate to such an extent that a large number of Palestinians will migrate from there across the border to Egypt is not out of the question. Go and the same fear has been expressed by the government of Egypt.

Antonio Guterres said that “there is a great danger of the complete destruction of the humanitarian aid system in Gaza, while the Palestinians say that Israel’s goal is to expel all Palestinians from Gaza.”

‘A clear difference between Israel’s words and actions’
EP Correspondent Jeremy Bowen has made a detailed analysis of the whole situation and said that the Israeli government does not look favorably on the United Nations and has strong disagreements with the Secretary General.

According to Jeremy Bowen, “Israel rejects the UN Secretary-General’s explanation, alleging that Antonio Guterres is actually a threat to world peace because he is calling for a cease-fire at this stage to save Hamas.” May Israel’s mission to destroy Hamas not be completed.

The United States has vetoed this resolution presented in the United Nations to demand a cease-fire. For those who are concerned about the loss of human life, their actions seem a little hollow.

The Americans claim that the Israelis will stick to the rules of war and avoid unnecessary civilian casualties, but there is a clear difference between what Israel says and what it does.

“Israel has banned journalists from entering Gaza, so I can’t report from there myself, but what the Secretary General is saying is very accurate from the pictures and videos we can see and the people who The same is confirmed by those we speak to.’

With all these measures, the situation is absolutely disastrous for the civilians there, as they are being subjected to a military campaign.

Israel claims that it is taking measures to save civilian lives, but Israel also accuses Hamas of using Palestinian civilians as human shields.

“I think the Secretary-General of the United Nations knew that his resolution might be vetoed, but his strategy behind the decision to vote for the cease-fire resolution was to hasten the inevitable moment when the United States would withdraw from Israel.” Say, ‘Enough is enough, you’ve had enough time to kill people and now it’s time for a ceasefire.’

I also spoke to some diplomats in this regard who said they could give the Israelis another month. I think the strategy of Antonio Guterres is to shorten the deadline for which he is not only increasing international pressure, but also in part by persuading the Americans to think that he is very firm on his position. Can’t last long.’

This pressure has increased today after the release of a video of prisoners being held by the Israeli Defense Forces in Gaza, in which Palestinian prisoners are being stripped naked. This condition of the captive men is a cruel depiction of war. According to local reports on social media, their number could be as high as 700.

Multiple sources, including the families of the captured men in the videos, say the refugees were taken from a UN school and that those who tried to escape were killed.

It should be noted that yesterday a heartbreaking video was circulated on social media in which six people were shown lying dead in the street. It is being said that the dead were in the same area where the refugee camp built in the school building is located.

The bloodied body of one of the dead lay on top of a white flag which he had apparently been carrying.

“The weather here is now extremely cold, so it is certainly unpleasant to be forced to walk around the streets in your underwear with your eyes blindfolded and your hands tied around your waist.”

The Israeli army claims that “we are trying to find out who is the suspect and who is responsible for these terrible attacks on October 7, while we are observing all international laws of war.”

The powerful Article 99 of the United Nations Charter was also mentioned in the East Pakistan War
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of a “serious threat of humanitarian crisis” in Gaza and called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.

He took an unusual step in this regard on Wednesday by using the discretionary power he has to invoke Article 99 of the UN Charter.

In a letter to the President of the Security Council justifying the implementation of Article 99 of the United Nations Charter, he said that ‘the situation in Gaza is rapidly moving towards a humanitarian catastrophe, which is likely to affect the Palestinians and the region. I will have irreversible effects for peace and security. This outcome should be avoided at all costs.

Israel’s response
Israel immediately reacted to the implementation of Article 99 of the UN Charter by Antonio Guterres. Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said that the Guterres administration is a threat to world peace.

He had tweeted on social media platform X and said that ‘Your request to activate Article 99 and call for a ceasefire in Gaza is supporting the terrorist organization Hamas and killing the elderly, abducting children and raping women. There is validation.’

The Israeli minister wrote in his tweet that “anyone who supports world peace should support the liberation of Gaza from Hamas.”

First use of Article 99 by Guterres
In his letter, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged the body in charge of ensuring international security to intervene to avoid a humanitarian crisis by calling for a ceasefire that would facilitate the delivery of aid and civilian populations. Provides protection.

In his letter, the Secretary-General described the deaths of more than 15,000 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis, the forced displacement of millions of people, human rights violations and the deteriorating health system in Gaza as a result of the war.

This is the first time Guterres has invoked Article 99 since he took over as UN Secretary-General in 2017.

In a letter to the President of the Security Council, he said the situation in Gaza is rapidly deteriorating, with potentially irreversible implications for the security of the Palestinians and the entire region.
