Millions of people around the world use online dating websites to find love.
According to ‘Online Dating Statistics and Facts’, an online dating analysis website, 90 million users worldwide use dating apps, but hundreds of them never get a date.
According to UK public opinion survey company ‘You Go’, 10% of the country’s population is using dating apps and half of them have gone on dates with people they met on these apps.
Zoe Strompel is the author of ‘The Man Diet’ and teaches history at the University of Essex, while Suzy Hyman gives relationship advice. Together, these two have compiled a few tips for dating that you might find useful.
1: Finding a date should be fun, not stressful
If you don’t feel good about it, stop. If you don’t like someone, don’t meet them again.
In this case, trying against your original desire can tire you and cause negative feelings.
2: Listen to your inner voice
If something doesn’t feel good at any point, think about it seriously.
We can easily blame ourselves saying ‘it’s my fault’ but it might be someone else’s fault.
3: Less is more when it comes to messaging
Talking to every person on a dating app can be exhausting.
Use your sense of humor and spend time chatting with people you enjoy talking to and where there is an air of hope.
4: Dating is a numbers game
Stay away from specific dating services and go where there are more people.
Dating is a numbers game so you have to sift through the coal dust to find the diamond. Don’t believe apps that claim they only have diamonds, not coal! There is no easy way out.
5: Find a friend first
The best relationship is one that starts as friendship and builds from there.
And yes, it is also possible that a friend introduced you to your future partner.
6: Show flexibility
Maybe you think you know what attracts you in a person.
If you narrow your list down, you may never come across that person who is right for you in every way but doesn’t seem to tick all the boxes you want.
7: Act sensibly and wisely
Meeting each other on the Internet means that you both don’t know each other and that you don’t know anything about each other.
If there is any doubt at all, listen to the alarm bells ringing in your mind.
If your new date asks for money or repeatedly cancels appointments, cut off all contact with the person.
